The time frame for the storm is Monday, Nov. 30 into Tuesday, Dec. 1. The days leading up to the arrival of the system will be dry with temperatures continuing to be above normal through the weekend with daily highs ranging from the low to upper 50s. Flash Flood Watch: Significant Storm System Will Bring Downpours, Delay Holiday Travel A significant storm system in the pre-Christmas travel days at the end of the week is headed our way.  Heavy rain, wind, and coastal flooding are all likely. A Flash Flood Watch is now in effect from 1 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21 until 1 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22. The National Weather Service is now forecasting 1.5 to 2.5 inches of rain with locally higher amounts, especially in any thunderstorms, with most of the area in a marginal risk for excessive rainfall. Severe Thunderstorm Watch: Storms With Downpours, Gusty Winds, Lightning Moving Through Area With an increase in the chance for storms Friday afternoon and evening, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch is now in effect for the area. The watch, issued at 3:40 p.m. by the National Weather Service, is in effect until 11 p.m. Friday. Among the counties covered by the watch are Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess, Rockland, Orange and Fairfield.
