Fatal Hudson Valley Crash: 26-Year-Old ID'd As Victim
A two-vehicle crash in the region claimed the life of one person and injured another.
The collision occurred in Orange County at 11:15 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 24, on Route 32 in Newburgh.
According to the town of Newburgh Police Lt. Matthew Nadolny, a preliminary investigation determined that a 2007 Ford Econoline van, operated by Leonel Marquez-Martinez, age 36, of Wallkill, was traveling southbound on Route 32.
Nadolny said a 2015 Chevrolet Volt operated by Marcus Bennett, age 26, of Montgomery, was traveling northbound when the two crashed.

A woman has been sentenced to six months in jail for the double-fatal, hit-and-run crash in the region.
Orange County resident Angela Fischl, age 25, of Newburgh, pleaded guilty to two counts of leaving the scene of an incident resulting in death on Tuesday, Oct. 15,
Following her plea, she was sentenced to five years probation and six months in the Ulster County Jail. Her driver’s license was also revoked, said Ulster County District Attorney Emmanuel Nneji.

The 68-year-old driver of a bus that hit and killed a kindergartner and his mother while they were walking to a school in Westchester will not face criminal charges, according to reports.
In a press conference on Friday, Aug. 30, police said the bus driver involved in the crash, which happened on Thursday, June 20, and caused the death of Mamaroneck residents Michael Donovan Volpe, age 6, and his mother, 43-year-old Molly Murphy Donovan, would not be criminally charged, according to a report by ABC7.

Hudson Valley Man Driving High Sentenced After Crash Paralyzed Teen
A Hudson Valley man was sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to driving high on pot and causing a crash that paralyzed a teen.
Orange County resident Chauncey Smith, age 23, of Pine Bush, was sentenced on Tuesday, July 16, to three to nine years in prison in connection with the Monday, August 14, 2023 crash, said Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler.
The teenage victim, who was paralyzed as a result of the crash, spoke at sentencing about the impact the defendant’s crimes had on his life, Hoovler said.
