Thousands of people were left in bewilderment after receiving waves of mysterious text messages dating back months ago. The “ghost messages” were sent to both iPhone and Android users this week, and reportedly were prevalent among all major cellular carriers. In total, approximately 168,000 messages were sent due to an “internal maintenance cycle,” according to CNN. Police: Woman Tried To Access Victim's Account To Make $2.2K Purchase At Nanuet Sprint Store
A 24-year-old woman is facing charges after police say she attempted to access an unauthorized account to make $2,200 in purchases at a Sprint store in Nanuet. Clarkstown Police responded to a report of a potential larceny at the Sprint store in Nanuet (40 Rockland Plaza) on Friday, March 8 around 4:30 p.m. Upon police arrival, a 29-year-old store employee told officers that a female suspect, identified as Sara Amaro of Astoria, was trying to access a Sprint Cellphone account to purchase two iPhones for a total of $2,199. Sprint Must Pay Record $330M Settlement To New York
Sprint has agreed to pay a record $330 million settlement to end a long-running tax dispute with New York, for “flagrantly breaking the law,” the state attorney general announced on Friday. The lawsuit alleged that for nearly a decade, Sprint “knowingly failed to collect and remit more than $100 million in state and local sales taxes owed on its flat-rate wireless calling plans sold to New Yorkers.” According to AG Barbara Underwood, the $330 million settlement is the largest-ever recovery resulting from an action filed under the New York False Claims Act. Suspects Caught After iPhones From Cellular Store Recovered In Area
A pair of Orange County residents were among four busted with nearly $50,000 of stolen iPhones, drugs and burglary tools following complaints of suspicious activity in an area neighborhood.
