It also led to the much-awaited easing of severe drought conditions in much of the region as drenching downpours moved through the region during the afternoon, evening, and overnight hours. Severe storms with heavy downpours and strong gusty winds are moving through the region from west to east late Monday afternoon, Sept. 5. Rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches, with locally as much as 5 inches, are expected across much of the area, the National Weather Service said, adding that "this may result in flooding of urban and poor drainage areas." A slow-moving frontal system accompanied by rain and storms will bring as much as 4 inches of rainfall to the region. Most of the precipitation will fall from 2 p.m. on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 5 through Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 6.
