Hundreds of high school students in Westchester staged a walkout in protest of an alleged sexual assault involving a student several years ago. In New Rochelle, upwards of 1,000 students walked out on Monday, March 21 in response to a social media post made last week from a student who alleged sexual assault four years ago at an off-campus location. A large school district in the region will start the calendar year remotely due to an increase COVID-19 cases amid the emergence of the Omicron strain. The Mount Vernon City School District said it plans to reopen for in-person learning on Tuesday, Jan. 18. The district had switched to 100-percent virtual instruction on Wednesday, Dec. 22. A community is on high alert after a swastika was found posted in the vicinity of a high school in Westchester County, officials announced. Students at a Westchester high school will be displaced for at least a month after suffering water damage and contamination from sewer water that backed up into the building during the recent round of storms.
