Gang Shooting In Region Not Targeted At Jewish Community, Police Say
Police in the region are stressing that an alleged gang shooting along a busy roadway was not targeting the Jewish community in any way. The incident took place in Sullivan County around 11 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 22 in Monticello in the area of Forestburgh Road and Hamilton Road. A preliminary investigation shows that a man driving a vehicle on Forestburgh Road stopped, got out of his car, and exchanged gunfire with another person walking along the shoulder of the northbound lane of the roadway, said Lt. Hanukkah Stabbing Victim Dies Three Months After Machete Attack
The man who has been struggling for life since a machete attack at a rabbi's home in the area this past December has died from his injuries. Rabbi Yisroel Kahan of Monsey said on Sunday, March 29, that the family had been holding out hope he would improve, but Josef Neuman, 72, died on Sunday. "With great sadness, we mourn the passing of Josef Neuman at the age of 72, who succumbed to injuries sustained during the #MonseyStabbing while celebrating Chanukah on December 28th," Kahan said on Twitter. NY State Police Increase Patrols At Jewish Centers, Synagogues After Pittsburgh Mass Shooting
This story has been updated. New York State Police will be increasing patrols around Jewish centers and synagogues after a mass shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue on Saturday morning, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced. Eleven people were killed at Tree of Life Congregation in the Squirrel Hill section of Pittsburgh during a baby-naming ceremony.
