Winter Storm Watch: Projected Snowfall Totals Released For Significant Storm Arriving Sunday
Moderate snowfall from the winter storm that moved arrived in the area overnight will taper off by mid to late morning on Saturday, March 2 after a widespread 3 to 5 inches of accumulation. As soon as the cleanup ends though, preparations will begin for the next -- and more significant -- snowstorm on Sunday, March 3, and projected snowfall totals have just been released. Snow Causes Slippery Driving Conditions With Numerous Crashes
This story has been updated. A quick-moving system bringing snow caused slippery driving conditions with reduced visibility during the morning commute. The snowfall has become lighter after 7 a.m. Friday, March 1, but precipitation, including snow showers and flurries, continued through around 8:30 a.m. for much of the area before tapering off. Numerous crashes were reported. Two In Custody After Stolen Car Rollover, Foot Chase On I-287 In Westchester, Police Say
Two suspects in an allegedly stolen car took police on a wild chase on, off and across I-287 in Westchester. Westchester County Police investigators at the Real Time Crime Center alerted officers on patrol at approximately 1:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 26, of an allegedly stolen Honda CRV that was trailing on the Hutchinson River Parkway near Mamaroneck Avenue in White Plains. According to a County Police spokesman, patrol officers were able to track down the vehicle, attempted to stop the driver, who failed to comply and sped off. I-287 Fully Reopens After Gasoline Tanker Fire
This story has been updated. I-287 is now fully reopened after a fire broke out on a gasoline tanker in White Plains. All lanes both ways were initially closed between Exit 9A (I-684) and Exit 9 (Hutchinson River Parkway) after the incident occurred just before 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14, leading to the shutdown of the highway in both directions. Westbound lanes reopened after about an hour.

The complex storm system that is bringing more freezing rain and rain than snow to the area will bring a big change in the weather pattern. New Storm Update: Get Set For Snow, Freezing Rain, Followed By Flash Freeze, Icing
The major, complex three-pronged storm that will bring a mix of snow and freezing rain followed by icy/slippery conditions is looking every bit as strong as expected as it gets set to arrive in the area on Saturday, Jan. 19. A total accumulation of between 3 to 7 inches of snowfall is expected for most of the region, with up to 12 inches farthest north. (See second image above.) Significant Ice Accumulation From Major Storm Could Lead To Power Outages This Weekend
An overnight round of light snow resulted in a coating to up to an inch of accumulation on Friday morning. But that was just a very small taste of what's in store as a major storm the National Weather Service describes as "multi-hazard" comes this weekend. The storm's biggest threat will be ice, especially north of I-287 and the Merritt Parkway and just south of I-84, where a quarter-inch of ice accumulation is expected. The back-to-back storms that will sweep through the area late this week will be followed by a blast of Arctic Air and an accumulation of ice that could cause power outages on Sunday. The first storm will come overnight Thursday night, Jan. 17 into Friday morning, Jan.18 with widespread 1 to 4 inches of accumulation, with the higher amounts farther north. A quick-moving system that bringing accumulating snowfall to the region Thursday night into Friday morning will be just a preview of a much more significant snowstorm expected in a bigger weekend storm. Here's When Motorists Should Avoid Area During Old TZB Demolition, Thruway Authority Says
The New York State Thruway Authority has a simple message for motorists during the controlled demolition period of the old Tappan Zee Bridge. Stay away. The new TZB will be closed for up to an hour during the old bridge's demolition and significant delays are expected and motorists should avoid the area and take alternate routes, the Thruway Authority said.
