A sticky situation was averted when a tanker truck carrying 8,000 gallons of tar overturned on a Hudson Valley roadway. Emergency crews in Ulster County were called just after 8 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, with reports of an overturned semi-truck with a tanker trailer in the Town of Esopus, at the intersection of Old Post Road and Maple Street. A Hudson Valley high school will be transitioning to its remote learning model for several months due to hazardous materials inside the building. In Rockland County, Clarence Ellis, the Superintendent of Schools for the East Ramapo Central School District announced that the Spring Valley High School will be going remote through January after conducting hazardous materials and air quality testing. Hazardous materials in classrooms inside a Hudson Valley high school forced officials to shutter the doors of the building and transition students to remote learning. In Rockland County, Spring Valley Schools Superintendent Clarence Ellis issued an alert to the community advising that the district was notified of suspicion of hazardous materials in specific classrooms at the high school, prompting the closure. UPDATE: Authorities reported no casualties in a massive pre-dawn Christmas fire that ripped through a commercial building in Mahwah and continued burning hours after it broke out. What became a five-alarm blaze broke out around 4:40 a.m. at Arzee Building Supply on Franklin Turnpike next to the Ramapo River. Fuel Tank Leak Causes Road Closure After Tractor-Trailer Crashes Off Rockland Roadway
A truck driver lost control of his tractor-trailer in Rockland County, crashing off-road and striking a rock, spilling hundreds of gallons of diesel fuel, and forcing a road closure for several hours in Blauvelt. Officers from the Orangetown Police Department received a report shortly before 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 14, when a Freightliner tractor-trailer heading west on Clausland Mountain Road went off-road, crashing onto private property. Workers at a Monsey business were treated for dizziness and other ailments after being exposed to a chemical smell that turned out not to be a hazardous material. Spring Valley police responded to the area of 6 Melnick Drive, in Monsey, around 12:40 p.m., on Wednesday, June 19, for a possible hazardous materials situation, said Spring Valley Officer Matthew Galli. RAMSEY, N.J. -- A 24-year-old Ramsey man died Monday after drinking a toxic cocktail made from mixing a chemical used in airbags with water. It was unclear whether the Peach Hill condominium resident knew that he was drinking sodium azide, responders said, adding that family notifications were made.
