Authorities are warning the public of a nationwide automated scam in which scammers use people’s email addresses to coerce payments by intimidating them with threats of embarrassment. A months-long cybercrime operation in the Hudson Valley has resulted in the arrest of seven sexual predators who possessed online child sexual abuse materials and attempted to lure children to meet for sex, officials said. An investigation by the New York Attorney General's Office found that more than 1.1 million accounts were compromised in cyberattacks of 17 companies.
