Area Man Accused Of Defrauding State Workers’ Compensation Fund Out Of $33.7K A 56-year-old man has been accused of defrauding the state workers’ compensation fund out of more than $33,000, police say. Robert Marra, of Crawford in Orange County, falsely reported the extent of his injuries to his doctors and independent medical examiners, according to a collaborative investigation by the NYS Department of Financial Services, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. These Hudson Valley Towns Rank Among Highest In State For Most Black Bears Taken In 2018 Hunters in the Hudson Valley were among the most proficient in taking bears, according to the DEC’s Black Bear Harvest summary. During the 2018-2019 hunting season, New Yorkers hunted down 1,295 black bears statewide, a decrease of 125 from the previous year. Of the bears that were hunted, 349 were killed by bow, 66 were killed by a muzzleloader and 11 were taken by youth hunters. In the Southern Zone, 804 bears were killed, 60 percent of which were male, and 491 bears were killed in the Northern Zone. Pilot Reports Engine Failure Before Helicopter Crash The pilot of a 1989 Bell 222A helicopter that crashed in the area said the chopper experienced an engine failure causing the crash and for the helicopter to overturn. The crash took place around 12:38 p.m., Saturday, March 30, near 77 Youngblood Road in Bullville, just west of I-87 in the Town of Crawford in Orange County.  The six onboard, five passengers, who were celebrating a birthday, and the pilot, suffered minor injuries, Crawford Police said. Town Clerk Accused Of Embezzling $20,000 A town clerk in Crawford has been arrested for allegedly embezzling $20,000 from the town over the past several years. Jolene Roy, 44, of Pine Bush, was arrested Monday, March 11, following an investigation by the state police in Middletown into irregularities with the books and accounts within the Town Clerk's office, said New York State Police Trooper Steven Nevel.  After an extensive investigation, it was determined that approximately $20,000 had allegedly been stolen by Roy, who has held the elected position since 2014, he said.  Roy was charged with grand larceny, …
