A longtime Hudson Valley police records employee known for her engaging personality has died at 68. Dutchess County native Dorinda R. 'Rindy' Germano, of Poughkeepsie, died peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Monticello. Born in Poughkeepsie, Rindy lived her 68 years with a "contagious zest for life and a heart brimming with kindness," according to her obituary. The lowest percentage of hospital employees who have received the COVID-19 vaccine in New York reside in the Hudson Valley. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said that 57.9 percent of hospital workers in the Hudson Valley have received the COVID-19 vaccine, while statewide, a total of 60.8 percent of medical professionals have been vaccinated. Pickup Truck Driver Cited For Following Too Closely In Route 17 Crash With School Bus
A 57-year-old pickup truck driver has been charged in the crash on Route 17 with a school bus that injured five students. The crash took place around 7:45 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 20, in Sullivan County eastbound in Mamakating between the bus and a pickup truck, said New York State Trooper Steve Nevel. The school bus was traveling from Fallsburg to Boces in Orange County with five children and two bus monitors, Nevel said. A suspect is on the run as police in the area investigate a shooting at an affordable housing community, police said. Officers from the Monticello Police Department were notified by Sullivan County 911 of a reported shooting victim at approximately 3 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 27 at John Crawford Senior Housing on North Street in the Village of Monticello, Police Lt. The driver of a Lincoln MKX was killed after crossing the double yellow line on Route 52 and striking a school bus, said the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office.The crash took place around 745 a.m., Monday, Sept. 16, on Route 52 at the Liberty/Fallsburg town line, said Undersheriff Eric Chaboty. A 5-year-old girl was killed during a horrific crash on Route 17 when the pickup truck she was riding in crossed the center lane and slammed into another truck, police said. A 4-year-old boy was hit and killed by an ice cream truck in the Hudson Valley, according to police. The boy was struck in the Town of Thompson, which is just outside of Monticello, at around 7:30 p.m. Thursday, said Eric Chaboty of the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office. A motorist from Bergen County failed to stop at a stop sign before crossing the double yellow lines while turning in a crash that resulted in the death of a 73-year-old woman in the Hudson Valley, police said.
