Fund Drive Under Way To Build Nyack HS Clock Tower Replica

NYACK, N. Y. -- A group of Nyack High School alumni are trying to raise money to build a replica of the clock tower at the old Nyack High School, and support future improvements at the new high school.

Partnering with the Rockland Community Foundation, the group is trying to raise $1.2 million for the tower project.

When the new Nyack High School was built in the 1990s on Christian Herald Road, the clock tower school building was left behind at the old high school site. The old tower stood overlooking the football field and became a recognizable symbol of the high school, they said.

The Nyack Tower Fund is a group of Nyack alumni who are dedicated to fulfilling a dream to build a reduced size replica of the old Nyack clock tower school building, and bring it to the new field to light our community sporting events.

The new tower would be built to look like the old, and be situated near the high school sports complex. As part of the effort to raise money, they are looking for large contributions to name one of the four entrance gates, concession stand, press box and score board.

The main tower itself will be named the Sennas/Crowther Memorial Tower in honor of two Nyack High School alums, Stacey Sennas McGowan and Welles Crowther, who lost their lives in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

If you'd like to help, call Dan Berkowitz, 1988 graduate, at (917)- 826-0850. You can also visit the Rockland Community Foundation website for more details.

In addition to Berkowitz, other alumni on the committee are Alison Crowther, Jeff Crowther, Mary Ingrassia Fiore, Julian Gould, Liz Gilroy Gould, Russell B. Grant, Laura Cahill Graham, Don Hammond, Chuck Scarpulla, Fran Sennas, Semo Sennas and Cynthia Costa Trahan.
