Kenneth Snipes, 57, was charged with reckless endangerment after pulling the loaded 9mm handgun out of its holster when he became upset with hospital staff, endangering patients and visitors in the area, police said.
Security guards tackled Snipes and held him until Orangetown police arrived on scene and were able to arrest him, police said.
Snipes, who has a valid permit to the carry the weapon, is scheduled to appear in court on March 28.
