Officers from the Orangetown Police Department were called to the hospital shortly before 4 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, following reports of a potential fight in progress.
Upon arrival, police determined that 34-year-old Spring Valley resident Wilson Jean-Baptiste had gotten into an argument with another individual, and it is alleged that during the argument, Jean-Baptiste pulled out a plastic toothbrush that had been sharpened to a point and attempted to stab the man repeatedly.
Police said that hospital security guards were able to disarm the man and subdue him before anyone received any significant injuries. Jean-Baptiste was subsequently arrested and charged with a felony count of attempted assault and criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor.
Jean-Baptiste was arraigned in Nyack Justice Court and remanded to the Rockland County Jail. He is due back in court later this year to answer the charges.
