The defendant, Jason Harte, was arrested on Monday by members of the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office’s Special Investigations Unit and the New York State Department of Tax and Finance, Zugibe said.
According to the felony charges, Harte failed to pay more than $20,000 in income tax.
“This defendant is alleged to have withheld taxes that he was legally obligated to pay as a New York State resident,” Zugibe said. “Our local municipalities and the state rely on collected tax dollars to fund programs and services for the public. Each of us must pay our fair share. Cheating the system is a paper crime that makes every New Yorker a victim.”
The defendant was arraigned in the Town of Orangetown Justice court and held at the Rockland County Jail, authorities said.
He is scheduled to return to court on Friday, according to prosecutors.
