Preston Santiago, 33, was arrested early Sunday morning at 3:39 a.m. after he attempted to stop police from making an arrest of another man, who had allegedly touched a woman in an inappropriate place, police said.
The man that police were attempting to arrest was Rashid Evans, 37, from Spring Valley. According to police, a woman reported that Evans had touched her "in an intimate area without her permission."
When officers approached Evans, Santiago attempted to stop them. He became physical and began fighting with the officers, injuring one during the altercation. He was eventually subdued and arrested, police said.
Santiago was charged with second-degree assault, a felony; resisting arrest and obstructing governmental property, both misdemeanors; and disorderly conduct, a violation. Evans meanwhile was charged with forcible touching, a misdemeanor, police said.
Both were transported to Orangetown police headquarters and arraigned. Evans was released on bail while Santiago was transported to Rockland County Jail, according to police.
