According to police, Michael Malm, 32, was involved in an accident on Middletown Road in Pearl River in which the person in the other vehicle was injured. Instead of staying until police arrived, Malm fled but was stopped a short time later by officers, police said.

When stopped, police said they could smell alcohol on his breath and he failed numerous field sobriety tests on the scene. He was arrested and taken to the Orangetown Police Department, where he failed a breath test by more than triple the legal limit, police said.

Malm was released on bail and is due to appear in court on Wednesday, May 11.
