Douglas Hadraniel, 28, of the Bronx, was charged with fourth-degree weapons possession, a misdemeanor, and criminal possession of marijuana, a violation, police said.
Hadraniel was a passenger in a car that had been stopped by authorities in a parking lot at the college in Orangeburg around 1:28 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, police said.
The officer conducted the search after detecting an odor of marijuana coming from the car, police said.
The batons are carried for self-defense by law-enforcement officers, military personnel, correctional officers, and security industry employees. Made of steel, they replaced the old wooden “billy clubs” police used to carry.
Hadraniel was processed at police headquarters in Orangetown and released on bail.
He is to appear in Orangetown Town Court on Wednesday, Feb. 1.
