Hit-Run Driver Charged With DWI After Nyack Crash

ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Thiells motorist was driving drunk when he was involved in a hit-and-run crash in Nyack early Saturday morning, Orangetown Police said.

At approximately 1:30 a.m., a resident of High Avenue in Nyack heard a loud crash and observed a gray vehicle leaving the scene of a crash, police said.

The resident followed the vehicle, took down its license plate number and reported it to police, who located the vehicle.

Upon interviewing the motorist, police said they observed that he had bloodshot eyes and detected a strong odor of alcohol.

Christopher Berson then failed several sobriety tests, police said.

Berson was charged with aggravated DWI and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

He is due to appear in Orangetown Justice Court on May 17.
