Video surveillance shows the 39-year-old Union County man advancing on the retreating officer before being jolted on Anderson Avenue near Day Avenue around 8:30 p.m.

“He became aggressive when the officer arrived,” Capt. Vincent Bellucci told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this morning. “The officer repeatedly told him to stop, but he kept advancing as the officer backed up.”

The man continued shouting “kill me” as he was being taken to Palisades General Medical Center in North Bergen, the captain said.

Jersey City Medical Center was sending screeners to follow up.

Fairview police were preparing reports on the incident, as required, to the Bergen County prosecutor and state Attorney General.

Images show the man talking on a cellphone — apparently to his sister — as he walked down the street before citizens called police.

The sister called police in Weehawken to tell them that he was depressed and suicidal, which authorities said helped police identify him.

No charges were filed against the Roselle man, so CLIFFVIEW PILOT was withholding his name.

Fairview police got their Tasers in 2013. This was the first time one was used.
