Driver Caught With Loaded .22, Crack In Rockland Traffic Stop Police Say

ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. - A traffic stop on Route 45 in Haverstraw led to the arrest of four men on gun and drug charges over the weekend.

At 9:45 p.m. on Saturday, June 17, New York State Police troopers stopped a vehicle on Route 45 for a violation, and during the subsequent traffic stop, found a loaded .22-caliber revolver in possession of the driver, 22-year-old Brooklyn resident Jennie Bryant-Umphlett.

According to police, a quantity of crack cocaine and marijuana were also located in the vehicle.

Bryant-Umphlett and his passengers, Charlotte resident Dajwon Jamal Lee Hatcher, 21, and Manhattan natives Jose Valverde, 25 and Brandon Fontanez, 24, were each charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana. Bryant-Umphlett was also charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

All four men were remanded to the Rockland County Jail and are due back in court later this year.
