The arrest came about when police responded to the report of a collision that had occurred on Route 303 and Bradley Parkway on Friday, around 4:09 p.m., according to police.
A motorist, identified as John Kaleekkal, had crashed into the rear of a large box truck, causing heavy front end damage to his vehicle, according to police.
Upon speaking with Kaleekkal, an officer noticed his speech was slurred and eyes were bloodshot, along with the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath, police said.
Kaleekkal complied with numerous field sobriety tests, which he failed, and was taken into custody for suspicion of driving while intoxicated, according to police.
The suspect was transported to Orangetown Police Headquarters, where he consented to a breathalyzer test, which showed his BAC to be more than double the legal limit, police said.
Kaleekkal has been charged with aggravated DWI, a misdemeanor, according to police.
He was released, and is due back in Orangetown Justice Court on Wednesday, Nov.9, to answer the charge, police said.
