And for the last five years, ever since Stony Point resident Dan Sullivan -- married and the father of three -- passed away suddenly of a heart attack at 57, his family has tried to make that wish come true.
On Friday, the foundation that was set up in Dan Sullivan's honor will host its fifth annual bash with the theme “Here Comes yhe Sun, and It’s Alright” at Albertus Magnus High School in Bardonia, Sullivan’s alma mater.
Sullivan, a Pearl River native who was a standout on the basketball court at Albertus Magnus and at Dominican College, owned an insurance agency in New City.
The party -- which includes music, dancing, food and beverages -- runs from 7-11 p.m.
Featured musicians will be John Cafferty and The Beaver Brown Band. Also playing will be Kevin Cronin, Tim O’Donohue, Tommy Dunn, Jan Lynch, Joe D’Urso, and the band, Stone Caravan.
A $500 prize will be drawn.
Tickets are $50, and the money raised will go to causes that were dear to Sullivan’s heart, his brother said.
Among them are scholarships for students at Albertus Magnus; St. Margaret’s Elementary School in Pearl River; and Nanuet High School. The family also set up a foundation in the name of another late brother -- those proceeds benefit students at the Pearl River High School.
The foundation also helps Rockland families with funeral expenses, medical bills and other costs incurred by the death or illness of a loved one, Jim Sullivan said.
Donations, which are tax-deductible, and checks for tickets to the event, can be made payable to The Dan Sullivan Foundation, 12 Lombardi Drive, Pearl River, N.Y., 10965.
