Winifred Vera Marshall, 91, Sparkill Resident

SPARKILL, N.Y. — Sparkill resident Winifred Vera Marshall died Wednesday, May 4. She was 91.

A native of Castlerea, Ireland, Marshall spent 45 years in the hotel industry, first as a bookkeeper at hotels in Ochos Rios on the Island of Jamaica and later as an assistant comptroller at hotels in the San Francisco area. 

For the past eight years, she has been a resident of Dowling Gardens, an assisted living facility in Sparkill, where she enjoyed the activities and had many good friends. 

Vera was predeceased by her husband of 20 years, Steven J. Marshall, as well as siblings Agnes O'Rourke, Jim, Michael, Patrick, Joseph, Molly and Kathleen. 

She is survived by her nephews, Edward and his wife Elaine T. O'Rourke, Kevin and his wife Inkie, David Murtagh, Stephen and his wife Debra Murtagh, Tony and his wife Janet Partridge; and niece, Diane Murtagh. 

Visiting hours will be from 3-7 p.m. Friday at the Joseph W. Sorce F.H. Inc., 728 W. Nyack Road, West Nyack.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel, 175 Route 340, Sparkill.
