Walter G. Murphy, 87, of Orangeburg

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. -- Walter G. Murphy, 87, of Orangeburg, died Dec.13, at the Joseph Raso Hospice House in New City.

Murphy worked as a school bus driver and dispatcher for Chestnut Ridge Transportation after a long career in sales. 

He was a son of Walter and Margaret Murphy of Pearl River.

He graduated from Pearl River High School, attended New York University, and served in the Marine Corp attaining the rank of Corporal. He made his first solo flight at the age of 17. 

He is survived by his wife, Henrietta Murphy; four children; Michael Murphy, Kathleen Murphy-Reguzzoni, Mark Murphy and Patricia Star; a brother, Dennis Murphy; a sister, Mary Haines; ten grandchildren, Brian Young, Jeffrey Young, Connor Murphy, Grace Murphy, Brendan Murphy, Gregory Murphy, Daniel Murphy, Marianne Murphy, Kenneth Murphy, and Logan Stark, and three great-grandchildren Hudson Young, Nolan Young and Harper Young. 

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Wyman Fisher Funeral Home in Pearl River Tuesday, and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. 

The funeral is at 10 a.m. Thursday, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 442 New Hempstead Road, New City. Interment will follow at the Rockland Cemetery 201 Kings Hwy, Sparkle.

Memorial donations are requested to United Hospice of Rockland.
