TAPPAN, N.Y. – Susan C. Niero, a resident of Tappan for over 60 years, died Tuesday, March 15. She was 80.
She was born in the Bronx to Genero and Alice Cicalese on Dec. 31, 1935. Before retiring in 2001, she was a group home supervisor for the Cardinal McCluskey Group Home in West Nyack for over 30 years. She was a life member and past treasurer of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Tappan Volunteer Fire Association and a parishioner of the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in Tappan.
She is survived by her children, Alice Ortman and her husband, Bob, Margaret Raabe and her partner, Shrille, Jerry Raabe and his wife, Janet, and Teddy Raabe and his companion, Artistine Recht; her grandchildren, Peter and Michael Santana, Ross, Alexis, Teddy and Tyler Raabe, and Elijah and E.J. Evans; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her companion of 40 years, Peter DeCarlo, who died in 2009; and her granddaughter, Dana Raabe, who died in 2008.
A funeral Mass was held at the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church with burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Yonkers. Visiting hours were at the Moritz Funeral Home in Tappan.
