Born in Johnson City, Kelsey grew up in Deposit. He graduated from Toccoa Falls College, in Georgia. He was a postal carrier for over 20 years in Tappan, and was well known to everyone as "Mr. Smiley."
After retirement, Kelsey enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He belonged to the Marquetry Club of Pearl River, the square dance club "Rocky Tops" of West Nyack, and the Orangetown-Nyack Senior Citizen's club at St. Ann's of Nyack.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jean; sister Evelyn Wicks; brother John Kelsey; children Timothy and his wife Donna, and Debbie and her husband Gerard; grandchildren John, Chris, James, Michael, Tara, Jean and Jena; great-grandsons Orion and Tucker; great-granddaughters Alex and Kaitlyn; and many nieces and nephews.
Kelsey was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Anna Kelsey; sister Helen; and daughter Rebecca.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, March 3, at Hannemann Funeral Home, 88 S. Broadway, on Nyack. A service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, March 4, at the funeral home, with burial following at Oakwood Cemetery, in Deposit.
