PEARL RIVER, N.Y. -- Maria L. Portoro, 87, of Pearl River, died Wednesday, Sept. 7. She was 87.
She was born March 28, 1929, in the Bronx.
She worked as a seamstress. Later, she worked with her husband at Commercial Book Binding Company in Manhattan. She also worked for the Pearl River High School as a hall monitor. Locally, she was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for more than 30 years and manager of the senior center's kitchen and service food. She also was a member of St. Margaret’s Altar Society.
She is survived by her daughters, Maryanne Portoro and husband Robert Rahnefeld and Corinne Knack and husband Robert; and grandchildren, Lorial and Robert.
She was predeceased by her husband, Carmine (Dom) Portoro.
A Mass of Christian burial will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Aedan R. C. Church, 23 S. Reld Drive, Pearl River. Visiting will be from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home Inc., 100 Franklin Ave., Pearl River.
