PEARL RIVER, N.Y. – James Flood, a resident of Pearl River, died Thursday, June 9. He was 85.
Born on June 15, 1930, in County Cavan, Ireland, he was the son of the late Philip and Ellen (McGearty) Flood. For the past 38 years, he has lived in Pearl River. Before that, he lived in the Inwood section of Manhattan, to which he immigrated from Ireland in 1957.
He worked as a building engineer for Wasserstein Brothers Inc. in New York City for 40 years, before retiring in 2001. He was educated at Greaghrahan National School in Ireland. He also earned various commercial building management licenses in New York City.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Catherine Flood; his children, Jim (Nancy) of Reston, Va.; Kenneth (Carolyn) of Pearl River; Jennifer (Kevin) of Riverdale; Denise (Joe) of Newtown, Conn.; and Kathryn (CJ) of Woodside; 12 grandchildren, Jimmy, Aidan and Caroline Flood, Christopher and Kelly Flood, Sarah and Alanna Sukhdeo, Owen, John and Katelyn Sullivan; and Ryan and Brendan Gianatiempo; his brother, John Flood (Bridget); and his sisters, Monica Colhoun and May Flood.
Friends may call Monday, June 13, from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday, June 14, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home, 100 Franklin Ave., Pearl River. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, June 15, at 10 a.m. at St. Margaret of Antioch Church in Pearl River. Interment will follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Nanuet.
