Edward Francis Mennell, 88, Of Pearl River

PEARL RIVER, N.Y. -- Edward Francis Mennell, of Pearl River, died on Thursday, Dec. 15. He was 88.

He was born June 9, 1928 in Brooklyn, the son of the late William and Mary Mennel. He attended Spring Valley High School and served in the Navy during World War II on the U.S.S. Oakland. He was a merchant marine for the Esso Company, and spent the remainder of his career as a draftsman in the fireproof door industry. He was active in the community as a scoutmaster, an avid bowler who once appeared on Bowling for Dollars, and a crossing guard for the Pearl River School District. 

He is survived by his wife, Thomasine; children, Thom Embree with daughters Francesca Serrano and Ariana Serrano-Embree, John and wife Jan with children, Ashley (Keuch) Betscha and Brent Keuch, Cheryl with son, Christian, Helen and husband, Alex Saraiva with children, Jessica (Eybers) Peloquin, William Eybers, Alex, Christina, John, and Angelina, Jerry and wife, Heather  with son, Thomas, Michael and wife, Milka with daughters, Georgia, Ophelia, Nico, and Ruby, and Christopher and wife Jaime with daughters, Hailey and Lia; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by siblings, Richard, John, and Ruth; half-siblings, Magdalena, Lillian Alice, William, and Walter; and his foster parents, Albert and Emilie Nafzieger, and their daughter, Emilie Rappleyea. 

Visitation is from 9-10:30 a.m. at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home Inc., 100 Franklin Ave., Pearl River. A mass takes place at 11:15 a.m. Monday at St. Margaret R. C. Church in Pearl River.
