TAPPAN, N.Y. – Dr. Thane Asch, a resident of Tappan, died Monday, Jan.18. He was 88.
He was born Aug. 3, 1927, in Manhattan to Marjorie Asch and Dr. Joseph Jefferson Asch.
He was raised in New York City and Westhampton, N.Y. and graduated from Manhattan’s Friends Seminary in 1945.
He served as a radar instructor for the U.S. Army Air Forces from 1945 – 1946, then received a bachelor's degree at Columbia University in 1951 and a medical degree at Weill Cornell Medical College in 1955.
Asch was a teacher at the New York Hospital and Cornell Medical Center. For nearly 25 years, he worked at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, where he worked as an educator, radiologist and director of mammography.
He is survived by his wife, Sheila McConnell Asch, two daughters, Karen Asch of Piermont; Liz Asch of Brooklyn; and son-in-law Tom Doyle also of Piermont.
A memorial service will be planned at a later date.
