Wali K. Khan, 31, of Monticello, and Erin M. Atkinson, 29, of Airmont, were pulled over Thursday by an Orangetown police officer who had been alerted to a stolen vehicle alarm by a license plate reader in his patrol car, police said.
The officer stopped the 2001 Toyota, which was being driven by Khan on Depew Avenue, and confirmed that it had been reported stolen in Ramapo in December, police said.
Khan and Atkinson, his passenger, were taken to Orangetown police headquarters for processing, according to police.
Khan was charged with third-degree menacing, a misdemeanor, after he repeatedly threatened to harm the arresting officer during the booking process, police said.
Both Khan and Atkinson were charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a felony, police said.
Khan was also charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor, and harassment, a violation, police said.
Atkinson was also charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance after the arresting officer found her to be in possession of several Xanax pills, police said.
Bail was set for both Kahn and Atkinson at $10,000. They were taken to the Rockland County Jail.
