Sewage Discharge Reported In Orangetown

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. -- A broken pipe led to a sewage spill at a Lake Tappan location at 276 Brandywine Drive in Orangeburg Monday morning at 11:15 a.m., the state Department of Environmental Conservation has reported.

The broken main pipe reportedly discharged sewage for eight-tenths of an hour, the DCE said.

An additional area affected is the corner of Blaisdell Road and Brandywine Drive. The storm sewer to Lake Tappan was also affected. It is unknown whether public areas were impacted, says the DCE.

The spill occurred when a 10-inch pipe broke and forced the main break from Ramland Pump Station with the water discharging at a rate of five gallons per minute.

The storm sewer catch basin has been sandbagged and flow is being held using a vacuum truck. No sewage has entered the storm sewer since the truck was set up, the DCE reports.

The truck will hold flow.

Meanwhile, a contractor is on route to the site to perform a dig and repair, according to the DCE.
