So far, about 100 people have signed a petition supporting the board's decision and opposing the project.
A letter to the board cites three occasions, Sept. 8, Oct. 13 and Nov. 10, when the board denied the proposal.
If allowed, the house at 246 Route 9W would be between 10,000 to 12.000 square feet and 41-feet high, the petition said.
The average house in the historic district is 2,500 square feet, according to the petition.
The proposed home would violate the guidelines of the Historic Area Board of Review, according to the petition.
