Nyack Forum Targets Teen Substance Abuse

NYACK, N.Y. -- A local group is hoping to clear up a lot of misconceptions about young people and substance abuse at a public forum in Nyack this month.

Our Community Against Drug Abuse  (OCADA) will be hosting "A Perfect Storm," a public forum on youths and substance abuse in Nyack next month.

The Our Community Against Drug Abuse (OCADA) event, which will feature a panel of experts, is set for Thursday, Jan. 17, at Nyack Seaport, 21 Burd St.

The town hall-style event is titled: “A Perfect Storm: Battling Misconceptions and the Health Crisis of Underage Drinking and Substance Use Disorders Among Youth.”

It is one of several OCADA plans to host in 2017.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the presentation begins at 7 p.m.

Leading the discussion will be Dr. Parinda Parikh and Dr. Ayodele Adeigbola of Second Arc Psychiatric Associates in White Plains.

Also on the panel are:

  • Dornzella Milligan, MA, CPP, student support services prevention coordinator, Nyack High School.
  • Robert Van Cura, undersheriff, Rockland County Sheriff’s Office.
  •  OCADA board president India Perez-Urbano, a Nyack High School grad and founder of Rockland Connects.
  • “John,” a young adult in recovery.

Information about local resources will be available.

Light refreshments will be served.
