Local Groups Press For Syrian Refugee Support

Some 35 groups are asking local leaders to support and advocate for the resettlement of a number of Syrian refugees in the New York area, according to lohud.com.

More than 35 local organizations are calling for the Congress and local governments to help the Syrian refugees relocate to the United States, including New York.

The groups, ranging from local civic and faith-based organizations, have signed a "call to action" document asking Congress to help the refugees resettle in either the Lower Hudson Valley or elsewhere, said lohud.com.

Locally, Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino and Rockland County Executive Ed Day support tighter screening amid safety concerns, said lohud.com.
