Christian M. Liga, age 30, of Monroe, was operating his 2007 Toyota Rav4 just north of Exit 16 in Stony Point when he lost control of the vehicle and traveled into the grassy center median and struck several trees at about 10 a.m., said Major Joseph A. Tripodo, state police Troop K commander.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
An accident reconstruction unit was called to the scene, as well as the Rockland County Medical Examiner's Office, said Trooper Melissa McMorris.
The fatality occurred during heavy rainfall and around the same time as the National Weather Service issued a flood warning for the region.
The investigation is continuing, state police said.
