PEARL RIVER, N.Y. -- Faced with a delayed Pascack Valley Line train, some may claim that New Jersey Transit stinks. If commuters and locals are to be believed, it may stink whether the trains are on time or not, especially at the Pearl River station, according to lohud.com.

Riders of the Pascack Valley Line and others are claiming the train's operators have been dumping sewage along the tracks in Pearl River.

Calling the smell "unbearable," at least one rail rider accused the train's operators of dumping sewage on the tracks as it rumbles through Pearl River each morning, according to lohud.com.

A spokesman with the railroad denied the accusation, saying that any water dumped along the track is "treated water" that poses no threat to the public, according to lohud.com

The railroad has been permitted to dump treated water along the tracks since reaching an agreement with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Conservation, according to lohud.com.
