Called "jump forms," by the New York State Thruway Authority, the blue boxes, which will create the 419-foot towers, will be placed one by one until the towers are complete. Each box is 650 square feet and is built in two sections, exterior and interior. The exterior sections are added first, then the interior; they are tied together with rebar and concrete, said lohud.com.
Each time workers add a new blue box, the bridge is raised between 12 and 18 feet. The Thruway Authority plans to complete the towers, by the end of this year, added lohud.com.
