Rockland Pride Center Purchases Building In Downtown Nyack

NYACK, N.Y. – The former Nyack Elks Lodge at 28 S. Franklin St. has been purchased by the Rockland County Pride Center and will soon be turned into a space for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community, according to lohud.com.

The building was purchased after roughly 65 founding members of the year-old organization set a fundraising goal of $500,000, according to lohud.com, which reported that Rosie O’Donnell provided about $150,000 for the cause.

RCPC leaders who stood outside the building Saturday said that the building would serve as a “safe place” for people to gather, according to lohud.com.

The building is located in Nyack’s downtown and, according to Mayor Jen White, will serve the village well, according to lohud.com.

The building could open later this year and may host support groups and counseling, educational programs, and a number of family services, according to lohud.com.
