Held at Braunsdorf Park at 7 p.m. at the intersection of Main Street and Central Avenue in downtown Pearl River, the free event begins with caroling, hot chocolate, and cookies while waiting for the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus.
When their sleigh pulls into town, they are joined by some of their favorite friends including Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Winnie the Pooh, Tigger and many others.
Every child is welcome to visit and take pictures with Santa Claus, as well as visit with all of the other characters. Families are invited to bring new, unwrapped toys the Rotary Club will distribute to needy children through The Center for Safety and Change (formerly the Rockland Family Shelter).
Residents are also encouraged to keep a lookout in their own neighborhoods as Santa and his friends wind their way through town on lighted floats before arriving at the park.
During the week leading up to the annual gathering in downtown Pearl River on Friday, the Rotary Club (Santa and his friends) also visit local group homes to bring holiday joy and gifts to the residents. All gifts have been donated by the membership of the Rotary Club of Pearl River.
