"I have a good friend whose daughter has cystic fibrosis," bar owner Travis Koester said. And the bar doesn't have a kitchen, "So it all worked together, and hot dog eating contests are fun."

Last year, the winner downed an astounding 38 hot dogs. You can watch a high-speed video of last year's round one here.

This year, Westchester County's own Captain Lawrence Brewing Co. will be helping out with a tap takeover -- filling six of the bar's 10 draft lines, including a couple of limited releases.

The draft lines always carry craft beer, on a one-in, one-out basis, Koester said. They also carry 40 to 50 different cans or bottles of widely varying beer, as well as an array of spirits.

The event will also feature blind raffles, 50/50 raffles and limited edition t-shirts, with proceeds going to the cause. A portion of beer sales will be donated, as well.

There's no cover to come and observe, and drink specials are in the works, Koester said. The entry fee to compete is $25, and includes a t-shirt, beer and a meal. You can drop by to sign up, call 845-353-2363 or message the bar on Facebook.

The contest will be from 2-5 p.m. The Tap House is at 4 S. Franklin St., in Nyack.

Koester said the bar also hosts other charitable events.

"I just hope to have everyone come out and support a great cause, for a fantastically disgusting event," Koester added.
