Bastille Day, Piermont's Street Festival, Returns July 16

PIERMONT, N.Y. -- Piermont's one and only street festival held annually celebrates Bastille Day. The French National Day, officially July 14, commemorates the Storming of the Bastille in 1789, in a violent revolution that had begun two days earlier. Celebrations are held throughout France.

Locally, the festival will feature food with with Peter Kelly’s raw bar and Tequila Sal Limon’s frosty margaritas, local businesses and organizations lining the sidewalks.

The Piermont Historical Society will have a table in front of the village hall where Rich Esnard will be dressed in Revolutionary garb and talk about (Marquis de) Lafayette and the Revolutionary War.

A walking tour and map covering three centuries of village history will be given out free of charge.

The festival will include the storming of the Bastille (with muskets blazing), and free walking tours into the Piermont's past.

The celebration is from noon to 10 p.m.
