Here's a sampling of events:
The monthly First Friday arts festival series will take place at a handful of venues across downtown Nyack on Friday night from 6 to 8 p.m.
Examples include a group show at Prohibition River at 7 p.m., and a themed exhibit called “Dance,”with musical accompaniment by MrLeeJay at Casa del Sol at 8 p.m.
Nyack singer-songwriter Jennifer O’Connor opens for Neko Case at the Tarrytown Music Hall on Friday night at 8 p.m. O'Connor's album, “Surface Noise,” is also released on Friday.
Irish singer Sean Fleming will perform “Songs and Stories of Ancient and Recent Ireland” at the Nyack Library on Friday night at 7 p.m. Backed by Steve Holley on drums, Justin Jordan on guitar, and Dave Reiss on bass, Fleming will share stories and Irish music.
Nyack's Dennis O’Neil will be honored for his decades of work in the comics industry with the Garner Art Center’s Lifetime Achievement Award on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
O'Neil has worked extensively at both DC and Marvel Comics, enjoying long runs writing both Batman and Spider-Man, along with a host of other characters.
The Rockland Symphony Orchestra showcases an 18-member brass choir and the music of Giovanni Gabrieli, Aaron Copland and Edvard Grieg on Sunday afternoon with a 4 p.m. concert at Sacred Heart Chapel.
