I-87 Blaze: Snow From Vehicle Roof Causes Car To Lose Control, Crash In Rockland (Update) This story has been updated.  A car crashed and caught on fire on Interstate 87 in Rockland County after snow from the vehicle in front of it blew off and caused it to lose control, police said. The incident happened on Interstate 87 North in Spring Valley on Monday, Feb. 10 at around 2:40 p.m. just before Exit 14, according to New York State Police.  An investigation determined that the vehicle had been driving in the northbound lanes when snow from the roof of the car in front blew onto the victim's car, causing it to crash into a ditch. Mail Thief Nabbed After High-Speed Escape In Rockland County: Police An 18-year-old man was nabbed by police for allegedly stealing mail that contained personal financial information out of residential mailboxes with two accomplices. Lt. Daniel Schoales of the Stony Point Police said Mahamadou Sissoko, of the Bronx, was charged on Thursday, Jan. 8, for the crimes committed on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2024, in Tompkins Cove. Car Engulfed In Flames On Parkway In Hudson Valley A vehicle fire prompted an early morning response on the Taconic State Parkway. The blaze happened on Saturday, Oct. 19 around 8:30 a.m. in Northern Westchester, when an SUV caught on fire on the southbound side in Hawthorne. Arriving fire crews soon found the vehicle consumed by flames and quickly hosed it down, putting the blaze out completely.  The response took around an hour and sent plumes of smoke up into the air on the parkway, as seen in images of the fire released on the Hawthorne Fire Department's social media page.  No injuries were reported.

Vehicle Catches On Fire On New Tappan Zee Bridge, Impacts Traffic A vehicle fire impacted traffic on the new Tappan Zee Bridge off the shore of Westchester County.  The blaze happened on Thursday, Aug. 22 just before 11 a.m., when a truck caught on fire in the northbound lanes of I-87 on the bridge near the Tarrytown shore, according to the New York State Thruway Authority.  The incident temporarily caused the left lane to be completely blocked.
