Two New York men wanted in separate violent crimes were tracked down last month in Bergen County, thanks to the county's newly-launched Crime Suppression Team, authorities said. The first arrest was made on Saturday, Dec. 21, when members of the team identified 51-year-old Randolph R. Smith of Far Rockaway, NY, who was wanted in connection with an armed robbery that occurred in New York City, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said. A Westchester, NY man has been arrested for his role in a mailbox theft ring that plagued Bergen County for weeks, authorities said. Officials ID Pedestrian Killed By Train That Suspended Service To Suffern
Officials have identified the pedestrian struck and killed by an NJ Transit train on Monday, Dec. 16. John Redinger, 62, of Ramsey, was struck by Train No. 56 on the Port Jervis Line east of the Ramsey station around 9:15 a.m., NJ Transit spokesman Kyalo Mulumba said.
