A 55-year-old man convicted of beating and robbing a victim in broad daylight after confronting him on an Orange County street will spend over a decade in prison, prosecutors announced.
Robert Smith, 55, was sentenced Tuesday, May 26, in Orange County Court to 13 years behind bars followed by five years of post-release supervision after previously being convicted by a jury of second-degree robbery, Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler said on Tuesday, May 26.

Deadly Week Behind Bars: Three NY Inmates Killed in Separate Attacks
Three prisoners were killed in New York State prisons within five days last week, state police said Monday, April 13.
All three men were killed in altercations with other prisoners, according to New York State Police. Additional charges against the three suspects are pending.
The first incident was discovered Monday, April 6 around 4:30 p.m. at Upstate Correctional Facility in Malone, police said. Michael Campbell, 51, was found lying dead under a sheet, according to investigators.

The arrests stemmed from an incident that began just before 1:30 a.m. on Monday, March 9, when Town of Warwick Police received a report of a robbery on Maple Avenue (Route 94) in the Village of Warwick, the department said on Tuesday, March 10.
