Wrong-Way Driver Killed, Two Teens Seriously Injured On Route 304: Police (Update) A head-on collision caused by a wrong-way driver on Route 304 in New City left one man dead and two teenagers seriously injured on Monday, Dec. 23, Clarkstown Police reported. At approximately 9:15 p.m., officers responded to the scene near the intersection of Route 304 and Second Street. Preliminary investigations revealed that a 35-year-old man from Ohio, driving a 2010 black Hyundai sedan, was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes when he collided head-on with a 2013 silver BMW. The BMW was occupied by an 18-year-old male driver and a 16-year-old female passenger, police said. …

Human Remains Found By Couple Walking On Fire Island, Police Say A man and woman walking along a beach on Fire Island stumbled upon human remains Monday, Dec. 23, police announced. The couple was along the beach around 4:55 p.m. when they found what appeared to be a human jawbone on Smith Point County Park Beach in Shirley, Suffolk County police said. They promptly brought the remains to a park attendant working at the site, police said. The Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s office later confirmed that the remains are human. Capt. John Watterson said William J. Mair, age 21, of Copake, was arrested on Friday, Dec. 20, in connection with an investigation into sexual contact with a person under the age of 17.
