Oh, and he survived.
At 6:25 p.m., officers responded to a medical call outside the Aquarium of Niagara in Niagara Falls State Park. When they arrived, they found the Niagara Falls resident suffering from injuries “consistent with an accident.”
Police determined that the man had driven a 2008 Toyota Tundra through a fence and into the gorge near Depot Avenue, by the Whirlpool Bridge.
Incredibly, the man managed to climb out of the gorge on his own. He was treated at the scene and transported to ECMC by AMR Western New York ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
No other victims were found. The incident remains under investigation by New York State Police, with help from the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Niagara County District Attorney’s Office. NY State Parks & Historic Sites is working to remove the vehicle from the gorge.
