A formal investigation is underway into alleged animal neglect at a Long Island wildlife preserve following allegations by former employees. Human Remains Found By Couple Walking On Fire Island, Police Say
A man and woman walking along a beach on Fire Island stumbled upon human remains Monday, Dec. 23, police announced. The couple was along the beach around 4:55 p.m. when they found what appeared to be a human jawbone on Smith Point County Park Beach in Shirley, Suffolk County police said. They promptly brought the remains to a park attendant working at the site, police said. The Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s office later confirmed that the remains are human. An 84-year-old man was seriously injured in a crash at the intersection of Straight Path and 31st Street in Lindenhurst, Suffolk County police announced on Monday, Dec. 23 at 1:14 p.m. The man, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was driving a 2020 Hyundai southbound on Straight Path when he attempted a left turn onto 31st Street, police said. Tavion Elting, of East Patchogue, was indicted for criminal possession of a weapon and related charges in Suffolk County Court on Friday, Dec. 20. Victim ID'd After FedEx Truck Hits, Kills Pedestrian On Long Island Expressway
Authorities identified a pedestrian who was struck and killed by a FedEx truck on the Long Island Expressway. The incident happened in Jericho, in the eastbound lanes of I-495 between exits 40W and 40, at around 2:45 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22. As Daily Voice reported, a 2004 FedEx truck, driven by a 28-year-old man, was heading east in the right lane when it struck a 33-year-old man who was walking in the roadway, according to Nassau County Police. Driver Seriously Injured In Fall From Moving Vehicle At Ronkonkoma Gas Station
A man is hospitalized after falling from a moving vehicle at a Long Island gas station. The incident happened in Ronkonkoma, at the Mobil station on Ronkonkoma Avenue, at around 8:40 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23. Suffolk County Police said a 48-year-old Ridge man pulled his Ford vehicle up to a gas pump and was getting out when it rolled forward. The man fell to the pavement and suffered serious injuries. He was taken by ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital. Detectives asked anyone who witnessed the incident to contact the Suffolk County Police Department at 631-854-8452.

Former NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo Files Lawsuit Against Sexual Harassment Accuser
Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who resigned in 2021 following allegations of sexual harassment, is suing one of his accusers, a Northern Westchester native, for defamation. Cuomo, age 67, filed the lawsuit in the New York Supreme Court on Thursday, Dec. 19 against former staffer Charlotte Bennett, a Northern Westchester native, who accused the former governor of sexual harassment in 2021. Bennett had previously filed a federal lawsuit against former Gov. Cuomo in September 2022. However, she voluntarily dropped the lawsuit on Monday, Dec. 9, saying in a joint statement …
